Sothmann Explains Impact of Tariffs on Brazilian Beef

July 22, 2025 by DTB AgriTrade

DTB AgriTrade policy expert Stephen Sothmann spoke to RFD-TV’s “Market Day Report” to discuss trade developments with Brazil, including the 50% tariff set to begin in August 2025. With the U.S. being a main beef market for the country, Sothman explained the potential impact to U.S. consumers if Brazil has to find other markets for its product.

“This [Brazilian beef] is the product that we need to bring in at this critical moment in order to keep prices affordable for U.S. consumers on other staples like hamburgers, hot dogs, sausages, and those types of products.”
