DTB AgriTrade Names Stephen Sothmann New Partner
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 4 January 2024
Washington, DC – Leading agricultural trade consulting firm DTB AgriTrade today announced that Stephen Sothmann has joined the firm as a Partner beginning January 1, 2024.
A trade lawyer by training, Sothmann has held key leadership positions at a variety of agriculture industry associations throughout his career. He is a recognized expert in U.S. agricultural trade policy and brings a wealth of success advancing the interests of global trade-dependent agribusinesses and industry associations.
“I could not be more excited to join the great team at DTB,” Sothmann stated. “Throughout my career, agricultural trade has been my passion and I look forward to bringing that passion to DTB’s broad range of clients.”
Prior to joining DTB AgriTrade, Sothmann held chief executive roles at the Meat Import Council of America (MICA), the Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA), and worked with a variety of other meat and livestock industry associations. He has served multiple terms on the Agricultural Trade Advisory Committee (ATAC), a highly selective committee of experts that advise the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) on trade issues. He also served two terms on the Executive Committee of the U.S. Agricultural Export Development Council (USAEDC), and held other key leadership positions with international industry and trade organizations. Early in his career, Sothmann worked as a member of the legislative staff of United States Senator Evan Bayh from Indiana.
DTB Associates LLP was founded in 2000 by Paul Drazek, Craig Thorn, and Kevin Brosch to provide legal, strategic, and tactical advice to producers, exporters, and importers competing in global food and agriculture markets. Since its founding, the DTB team has been involved in many headline-grabbing World Trade Organization (WTO) trade disputes, including the beef hormone and biotechnology cases between the U.S. and the European Union, and the U.S. cases against farm subsidies and market access barriers in China. Beyond the headlines, DTB has helped its clients solve, mitigate, and fight a multitude of policies that would increase trade uncertainty and reduce income for farmers and companies that rely on global markets. In 2020, DTB Associates rebranded as DTB AgriTrade to honor the legacy of its founders and better reflect the strength of the firm as a leader in agricultural trade policy.
